Enjoy this mexican traditional dish to celebrate Mexico’s Independence day

Mexico has customs and traditions that make us feel very proud and, although we are far from the country, we always look the way to be able to celebrate these memorable dates with a delicious mexican traditional dish, with drinks and good music. El Grito is getting closer and although, maybe you can’t celebrate it like in the past because you are far away from your country, we will give you some tips so you can celebrate it in a mexican style.

Where can you celebrate Mexico’s Independence Day?

According to an article of Milenio, there are 4 places in the United States where you can celebrate Mexico’s independence day.

  • Las Vegas: A lot of mexicans celebrate there because of the shows, like mexican singers giving concerts and, sometimes, boxing fight where a mexican will be in.
  • Chicago: Because its cultural attractions and, the principal: El Festival de la Villita, that has similarities to celebrations in Mexico’s states.
  • Los Angeles: The second city with more mexicans in the whole world, that has a lot of places to celebrate it, besides the Mexico’s Independence parade in EAST L.A.
  • San Antonio: Another city where more and more mexicans are, and here, the celebration last throughout the month.

In Mexico there are specific places that are memorable because there happened some specific situations regarding Mexico´s independence:

  • Dolores Hidalgo Guanajuato: place where the Independence started.
  • Guanajuato, Guanajuato: is the birthplace of the independence.
  • Queretaro, Queretaro: La corregidora Doña Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez, told Hidalgo that the conspiracy had been discovered.
  • San Miguel Allende: the general and Don Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla’s right hand, Ignacio Allende, was born.
  • Guadalajara, Jalisco: nothing relevant of the Independence happened there, but is the birthplace of symbols and traditions that define Mexico.

There’s a saying, or a phrase: “There are memories that, no matter time or distance, can’t be erased; especially the beautiful moments with the family and our Mexico.

On september 15th not only is to shout VIVA HIDALGO, VIVA MORELOS, VIVA MEXICO! Also is a great moment to remember, while we enjoy with a mexican traditional dish.

If you don’t know how to preparate them, here’s a recipe. Is simple and, with Capistrano’s turkey jam, they will be more delicious.

Recipe:

Ingredients:

For the sauce we will require: 3 pieces of roasted tomatoes, ½ piece of roasted onion, 1 piece of roasted clove of garlic, 1 spoonful of tomato puree, a pinch of salt, a pinch of pepper, 1 spoonful of ground cumin and ½ cup of water.

For the stuffed chili we will need: One spoonful of olive oil, 1 clove of garlic, ½ piece of purple onion on little squares, 2 spoonfuls of washed, disinfected and chopped coriander stalks, 4 pieces of Capistrano’s turkey jam, ½ cup of black beans cooked in unsalted water(drained), 4 pieces of cleaned and roasted poblano peppers to fill, ¼ piece of avocado thinly sliced, 3 spoonful of Cotija cheese in little squares.

How to prepare:

For the sauce we have to liquefy all the ingredients until you get a soft texture and homogeneous, then we have to strain over a pot and heat over a low heat.

For the peppers we have to place the oil in a skillet and cook garlic and onion until they release their flavours, without letting them change their color. The next thing we have to do is add the coriander stalks, turkey jam and the beans, saute them for 3 minutes and remove them from the fire.

Finally, fill the stuffed chili with the mixture and serve them hot with the tomato sauce. Decorate them with avocado, cotija cheese and enjoy at the moment.
